Hello/Goodbye-Sept '09

Some of you will already know but to those who don’t Button Thief has come to an end. It has been a lot of fun but I (Stu) am moving on to several different projects that I feel are more important and relevant- Don't worry I still love music. Thanks to everyone that contributed, spoke to us or said hi.

PS

-One of my new projects will be posted here when it gets done-I’m very excited as I think it's the first of its kind.

-I am still running The Modern Beardsmith and its website so head over there if you fancy staying in touch.

Obsolete?

Pixelh8 recently completed two experimental shows at Bletchley Park Computer museum. Check out the BLOG to find out what The Modern Beardsmith thought.

Vinyl Revival

Here at Button Thief we don’t normally do podcast style audio but here is a short documentary I recently produced.

Vinyl Revival looks into the rise in the vinyl format and features various people including Jamie from TANAOU, The Fly magazine and The Altruist plus many more.

Tell(ison) us about your band

Tellison don't just make great music, they sometimes talk about it. LIKE THIS

We are your friends

Singer songwriter and all round nice guy Bill Noonan AKA MORNINOONANIGHT has started up his own acoustic night. ‘A Night With Friends’ is held in The Capenter’s Arms near his hometown of Luton and the first one lived up to the name perfectly. Liam Hoflay, Anthony Love, Morninoonanight, Key Concept and Eamon Sukkar of the Ruskins provided entertainment. A Good convivial atmosphere, ballads and beer made it a great night with no pretensions.

Bill has allayed fan’s fears that this shows a possible move away from his music: “Obviously music is my first love and I need to represent that through my own music but I’m also finding other ways in which I can do it by being equally creative.”

Being no stranger to the promoting game, having set up his own festival a few years ago we’ve got every confidence in him. Just make sure we’re invited to the next one!

Tixe Art

These awesome pieces are by Libbie Coulson of the combo Tixe Art. We spoke to her about her art, her influences and the perfect way to get rid of a body…but maybe not the last one. Check them out HERE

And and also...

Merry Xmas all!

Thr33 is a magic number

Thr33 Designs has long been churning out some great artwork for all sorts of bands. Check out our Alex Curtis profile here.

La Shark are one of the most exciting and original bands we have heard in a long time. Describing themselves as ‘DaDa pop’ the London 6-piece create a quirky tapestry of harmonies over an eerie tune.

Check out the track ‘Bones’ on their Myspace

Your Friends Are Architects know how to make seriously good music. We caught up with them to them to find out what they've been up to, and whether they can solve the credit crunch. Read it here.

Loyal Trooper is London based singer songwriter Andy Walker. Spinning yarns over folk guitar, his instantly familiar style of telling stories has the power to capture your attention in layered emotion. His confidence and conviction are long beyond his years, and he’s a bloody nice guy too.

His debut ep ‘One Day This Will All Work Out…” is out now. Find out more at www.myspace.com/loyaltrooper

Ed Larkin has just re-launched his Pan I Am solo venture. The former Larrikin Love front man released a free download single to celebrate the launch of his new website. The download entitled Young God/ Bad Thing continues the harsher and side of Pan I Am but still maintaining the tender atmospheric construction. An Album is promised early next year!

Holy Roar have announced their Happy Holy Roar Compilation Tape 2. It’s out mid December and once again limited to 100 copies. This year Throats, Rolo Tomassi, Mirror!Mirror! are enlisted up for what is surely set to be an awesome line up.

We love Found magazine and recently had this find of our own which we sent off. The rest is on the Blog.

Bloc Party debuted their most recent song ‘Mercury’ on BBC Radio 1 last night. The tune continues a heavily electronic influence the band have been dealing with. Sounding very much like it's a remixed version of a Bloc Party song, akin to those on ‘Silent Alarm Remixed’, it may be a grower but to be honest we just want to hear the ‘old’ Bloc Party version.

We caught up with Thomas from Capitals in Bournemouth. Their two demo tracks have left everyone hungry for more their disjointed and chaotic brand of music. He told us that were indeed writing with an EP in mind but said “We want the material to be as current possible and we need the time to organise to actually write it as a whole.”

Killer Fashion pt 1

This is a look which has refused to go out of vogue. When the police drew up this identikit image of the Unabomber they had obviously decided they were after a very snappy individual. Read our new feature on Killer Style here.

Have you ever seen a whale being blown up? We hadn't either but check out this video on the blog.

After deciding pretty early on that Banksy's latest venture was very boring and just for people who think he's still edgy we have picked our favorite piece from the installation.

A BIG thank you to Artrocker’s James Garner for possibly one of the best openings to a gig review. I say review, it’s really just a dry humoured rant, but we liked it.Read it here.

ROLO Tomassi have uploaded a new song to their Myspace page. ‘Beatrotter’ is everything you would hope and more from the progressive spaz mentalists. Listen to it here and feel 10 times more anxious to get a hold of their full-length debut.
